DOA's bouncing breasts to test "sex sells" cliche

Team Ninja's latest Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 trailer (available on Xbox Live Marketplace) has been called "too bouncy." Indeed, if you care to watch, you'll be transported to a fantasy island where unreal beauties frolic and dance, wrestle and massage, read and relax -- and bounce.

Big boobs and bikinis are enlisted to sell all kinds of products, from magazines to music to beer. But can they sell games? Should we consider DOAX2's gross exaggeration of the adage "sex sells" to be pioneering?

I did get a good chuckle when I showed this at an Xbox 360 party to a bunch of guys. The reaction was "I gotta have this game", this even thou the video did not show any actual gameplay. But who am I to argue.....I already pre-ordered my copy.

And the hair goes inside of their bodies. Seems like they took so much time to make unrealistic you-know-whats that they forgot to program in more than N64 quality hair.

Not to come off like a perv, but games should be more sexual. There's plenty of games that have killing, but any time there's any sex people scream "Hot Coffee." Any game that stands up to the ESRB I can appreciate. And btw this game has plenty of reserves, so to answer the first question "yes."

Man, those boobs bounce sooo wierd... Makes it freaky. On a funny note, My gf (non-gamer) and her sister, enjoyed DOA Volleyball more than anyone else I know. Surprisingly, she isnt the only girl I know that loves the DOA volleyball game. It is very popular amoungst the ladies... I think its cause of the swimsuits and accessorising. Sure its bouncing boobs but when you get into the actual game play its like playing with a barbie doll. Not to mention, I could watch my gf play DOAX ALL DAY LONG.

I just watched the new Hi-Res trailer....and the freakin hair bugs the crap out of me...If they wern't going to put in some serious time on making the hair...not so...clumpy, then why not at least make more fo the girls have shorter hair???

But other then that compaint...it looks good.
After all....Its not very often that a video game trailer gets you a hard on.

The girls look terrible, it looks like there's twice as many polygons in the breasts than there are in the whole rest of the model, and the physics that effect them are insane, its like theres an anti-gravity feild located right on their chests and nowhere else. And the hair does look terrible, I couldn't belive how badly it clips right through the models, it throws any scrap of realism that they might have had completely out the window. Hair in Soul Calibur II and III from LAST generation's consoles looked better than this crap.

Hilarious! The only word that comes to mind when I see this is "floppity".

I see Team Ninja has gone back to the physics engine that made DOA1 on the Sega Saturn famous.

Seriously, though, this looks REALLY bad. I actually admit to owning DOAXBV, and while the gameplay was not all that much fun, the physics were at least somewhat believable. But the hair really does kill this new video; it is *much* worse than the first game, or any other DOA title. I've never seen these character models with hair that goes *through* their bodies, and not just from certain angles, but all over the place. There are some serious clipping issues going on here.

I have no idea who's going to buy this game. If you get a hard-on from this, do you also get a hard-on throwing a beach ball around? Because it's pretty much the same thing. It'd be one thing if the bounce here was at least somewhat realistic - I'm not saying virtual characters can never be sexy. But this is spectacularly ludicrous.

There's supposedly no real gameplay to this game either, even quoting Itagaki. He says in EGM that it's basically about jetskiing, but that there's no reward for winning a race and no penalty for losing. So he says you're free to just drive around the water. Great. You'd think with all that time he's freed up not having to worry about actual gameplay that he'd be able to spend a little effort cleaning up the physics and character models, but apparently no dice.

Seriously, the physics is just wrong...its not exaggerated, just plain wrong.
I'm a big fan of all the DOA games, I have them all. I may not buy this one unless I read that the bounce can be controlled, or is otherwised fixed.

It's just plain stupid looking.

They take gamers into a fantasy world to escape the mundane real world for a while.

Why don't they just do what gamers want and remove the clothes, sell it as an Adults Only title and then just stop trying to make it as suggestive as possible? Not that I even was able to watch half of it, it was boring as hell. I think I watched a minute before I just rolled my eyes.

Yeah, I wish they'd made the whole body real, rather than giggly-fun to look at the bounciness... if they move the way that picture looks, then they're being made too-squishy and too-bouncy, and thus unreal.. and the hair, bleh, maybe if they made the hair as smooth as the breasts appear to be, then I wouldn't be annoyed by the picture... but from the sounds of it, it'll just be silly. Thumbs down.

I know deep down Team Ninja want to just get rid of the guys in DOA as its plainly obvious, they don't spend even near enough time working on the male characters and a decent storyline that actually makes sense as they do the girls, the only reason they didn't make the girls naked is because they'd get in trouble, but they tried to see how close to naked they could get.

Meh, game is rather briandead, and sad at that, only reason most people would even purchase this is for the girls. Kinda sexist if you ask me, is this really supposed to attract female gamers?

The breasts might be nice if these realistic models didn't have stupid anime faces. It's just alien and weird. They don't look like humans. They look like animated toys based on some extraterrestrial race with creepy faces.

This is what kills most of (among others) Team Ninja's, Square's, and Sony's stuff for me- Cool, realistic models with realistic bodies, and freaky anime faces and hair. I can't deal with playing "Devil May Cry" and seeing that stupid cartoon face on the realistic body.

Anime is the death of creativity in character design. It should be banished from gaming.

I'm surprised there aren't many sex games for any of the consoles yet. There should be by now. Sex does sell well, and interactive sex games would do well, especially on the Nintendo Wii. You could use the Wiimote for all sorts of perverse things.

People seem too puritan about sex in games, and it's baffling. In many of the most popular games, you're allowed to kill innocent people, and you face little consequences in doing so. You're murdering people.

Meanwhile, sex is perfectly natural. Everyone does it. It's quite legal to do. And so long as it's depicted as two consensual adults having sex, I don't see why people are so freaked out about it.

Bottomline.. if you think that shooting women in the head in Godfather is "OK", while having virtual sex is "messed up", I think you need to do some serious thinking. Sex video games would be very big sellers, so I'm surprised no one's really doing it. Where's World of Sexcraft?

Sex (for the most part) is legal in real life while killing isn't. While I have no problem with sex in video games, I believe violence in video games is ok as well. It is the only place we are allowed to kill in, and that is a good thing.
